Protecting
urban
health,
with data
PUREPOLIS aims to transform urban health by equipping policymakers with innovative tools to prioritize high-impact action against pollution. Grounded in data, citizen participation, and scientific evidence, it promotes decision-making that can be adopted across cities with diverse backgrounds.

From digital twin to policy reports
—– OUR MISSION
200,000 premature deaths each year linked to air pollution across the EU in the coming decade.
30% of Europe’s population lives in areas where noise levels are harmful to health.
1 in 4 water bodies in Europe is at risk from pollution and climate-change pressure.
Project Timeframe
Start – 1 January 2026
End – 31 December 2028
Three pillars,
one approach.
Our main objective is to reduce urban pollution and its impact on health through innovative methods and tools enabling policymakers to adopt meaningful policies and to prioritise their actions.
01 – MEASURE
Measure pollution where people live.
A citizen-science app and a near-real-time source apportionment tool turn rooftops, sidewalks and rivers into a continuous, multi-pollutant sensing network.
02 – MODEL
Model how decisions influence health impacts
An improved, risk-based health impact assessment framework couples toxicology, epidemiology and a city-scale digital twin — so policymakers can see the consequences of options before choosing.
03 – ACT
Co-design measures that cities can adopt.
Through workshops in Nantes and Valencia, PUREPOLIS turns evidence into Dynamic Abatement Strategies — concrete, replicable measures co-designed with citizens, NGOs and local authorities.
